I could fork up the cash to pay for them both to go, and not adopt them. But, if I adopt them, it is paid for 100%.

What would you do?

I have a sticky situation. I have had two of my son's friends living with us for awhile. Thier parents tossed them out at age 15!!!! UGH. Now they want to go to college, I can get them on my GI Bill, if I adopt them. What would you do?

Yes, the parents are very happy not to be responsible for them. Sad.

You have to consider that adopting a child or children is more than just getting their college for free. They might consider you as "Mom" for the rest of their lives... are you prepared for that? If so, I would say go ahead and do it, as long as they're not just a bunch of hoodlums that want to party for free for a semester or two and then flunk out....

If they're 18, they can get student loans and fund their own college ed.

No, these are two really good young ladies. I have been strict with them. I asked them if they could attend the local college, and without adopting them, I could pay their way to go there. If they score a 29 or a 30 on the ACT, the college they want to go to will give them a 100% ride.

Not only could they get student loans, they could get student GRANTS, which they don't have to pay back... just for being kids with parents who don't give a damn. If they are 18, all they would have to do is prove where they've been living for a year and their income (if any)... I would look into something other than adopting them. Adoption is a lot bigger responsibility than paying for college.

Youre already responsible for them it sounds like. Why not adopt them? They sound like they deserve parents because theirs are deadbeats.

If you would like to be their parent ASIDE from the money and college situation, yes, adopt them. It sounds like they could use a good family, but it also sounds like you are basing much of your desision to bring two kids into your life on the financial benefits it will reap. This is a choice you should make from your heart. Do you love them or would you just be like "okay, your'e techincally my kids now, so go to college or whatever and I will see ya later" ?
