I don't feel like cereal has any real nutritive value for my breastfed baby, so I never have given it to either of my kids. They go from breast to table foods.

Your milk is all he needs until he is ready to explore table foods, like the first mama said. I hate it when I hear women say they mix cereal in formula to make the baby sleep longer!! Keep up the good work!!!!

Storebought baby cereal is complete garbage. Check it out: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/cereal.htm

Never. Cereal has no nutritional value, except for all the iron it's loaded with that isn't bioavailable and mostly just constipates them.

I gave them both cereal with a spoon somewhere between 4 and 6 months. Followed shortly by other baby foods once they were used to eating from a spoon.

Couldn't answer this one. My kids were all intolerant of the iron in cereals & formula. So, they had low-iron formula when not getting breastmilk & no cereal -- just went straight to fruits & veggies.

I started both my babies at 6-8 weeks. A little cereal added to the bedtime bottle. Both of my boys were born with a milk allergy. ANYTHING I consumed that had dairy anywhere in it made them sick. They were on a special forumula.

Why so young? My Mamo told me to! She was a Registered Nurse and worked in labor/delivery for years! She is also the proud Mom (of my Mom no doubt) of an extreme preemie! Less than 7 months and didn't evenweigh 2 lbs. I always trusted her advice!

BTW, my boys outgrew the milk allergy and they have no other allergies.

My kid had fomula and the doctor let us start her on cereal shortly after 2 months becuase she was aready eating 8oz every 5 hours. I think you should do what your doctor says.
