child abuse wold be if they starved the child if it is obese it ain't starved. there is too much false claims of things being child abuse that it takes away from the real problem

Chances are if the kid is obese the parent is too. I think educating the parents is the only thing would work. I am saddened by the amount of over weight kids in my 3rd graders class. IMO. There is no reason besides medically to have an overweight kid.

if kids played outside and weren't parked in front of the TV or video game there would be a lot less obesity also if parents didn't buy fast food all the time that would help. good oldfashioned home cooked meals where mama controls the sugar and oil would help alot

Please people work with your kids! Get them off the couch and outside playing. Organized sports are good if you are too lazy to play or workout with them. Sorry to be harsh, but kids are overweight at an alarming rate. Most of the time when I see an obese child the parents are also obese. Why on earth would you want that for your child? Surely you know how it feels socially and on your body and health to be fat?! I do not guess it can actually be considered child abuse, but I wonder of those people really want the best for their children.

Uhm no in some cases its a disorder causing the weight gain, like a thyroid issue or diabetis. So unless everyone with a child with any minor disorder wants to get in line and hand their kids over to the state then no it isnt child abuse.

Sometimes cheap junk food is all that parents can afford. Good healthy food is expensive. If this were a law I think it would unfairly punish the lower classes for being poor.

unless the parents are forcing food down the kids throat then it shouldnt be abuse. i agree with beck about it punishing the poor. my DH & i are obese but we arent just sitting on our butts all day, & neither will our DD (once she gets old enough to move herself haha)

That is so untrue chips and other junk is very expensive. My kids eat fruits and veggies that are on sale and it does not always mean that they get what they like cause what is on sale is not always what they want but we are pretty damn poor right now and we still eat pretty healthy.

WOW!  Aren't you judgemental!  You have no idea of the circumstances in other people's lives, so don't judge until you have walked a mile in their shoes!
