I'm not a fan of spanking at all, but I don't think a swat on the bottom is abuse. Anything that leaves a mark is more than just a spanking though, and leaving cuts or anything like that is abusive.

Spanking & Abuse should not be used in the same sentence, it is two TOTALLY different things, people tend to relate the two as one, because they are too lazy to discipline their kids. Spanking is in relation to discipline.

i dont think there should be any marks left on your child at all, IMO spanking is more to get your childs attention and let them know your angry with them and they did something wrong, not to actually hurt them. but thats just me

I voted for the 3rd option but I actually don't think any marks should be left. Obviously some children bruise EXTREMELY easy so that's one thing but most don't and you have to smack pretty hard to leave a bruise, etc. And their red little tush certainly shouldn't stay red for even an hour. I know, I come from a home where I wasn't "abused" in the way most people consider my step mother most definitely took things well beyond what they should've been with me and her own kids [former kids correction officer... so I don't think she knew how to deal with kids that weren't REALLY bad].

That third option isn't a spanking, though. Spanking and abuse are very different things.

Hey reality of it is if their doing something thats gonna get them badly hurt then I say spank but other than that a time out would be best.

i do not spank but i do not think a tap on the butt is abuse either, its just a partening style, now if you "spank" them somewhere other then the butt, wheter it leaves a mark or not then yes

Abuse and Spanking are unrelated. ABUSE isn't spanking - it's hitting, shoving, pushing, punching, pinching, slapping . . . you get the drift. SPANKING is a swat or two on the bottom.

It is most definitely a violation of human rights. Nobody deserves to be hit, swatted, spanked, or any other word you want to use. It is not okay to do that to an adult, why is it okay to do that to a child?
