My son has gone in the potty 6 times (4 pees, 2 poops) in the last two days. He gets excited when I go to change his diaper and he points to his potty seat and has gone every time. Is this just curiosity or could we be on our way to potty training? He will be 14 months old on the 15th and my girls were never ready this early (or maybe I didn't pay enough attention). What do you think?

Could my son be learning already?

  • Yes, my child also potty trained early!

  • He could be, but I haven't had any children train that young!

  • No way, just dumb luck!

  • I doubt it, but keep trying, maybe something will come of it.

Liam's slowly potty training too! Although I have to tell you, when we first bought his potty chair, he used it several times a day for about a week, then lost interest. Well, not lost interest, but he definitely doesn't use it as much as he did that week. He'll sit on it (with or without a diaper on) and say that he's going potty, but not actually go. Don't push it... but do encourage it! =]

Thanks Melanie! That's sort of what I plan on, but I just want to see what everyone thinks!

Congratulations, you're in the first stage--it's not 'is he ready' but that he IS ready to start--because he has. First stage can take a long time, though, but you're there! I hope it keeps going smoothly ^_^ Watch him break stereotypes! (that boys learn later than girls)

Oh, yes, and like Melanie said--Lilly used the potty a lot right off the bat, then stopped for a while, which is why I warn that the first stage can take a long time.

Sounds great, keep it up! Sean had an interest for a little while, and then completely lost it. But now he is back to using his potty to pee when it's offered. I think you're setting the stage for him to get there earlier than usual. Having 2 older siblings is probably helping, also. Yay!

Could be! My son was interested at around 18 months and then lost interest. He has now declared the potty "HAT!" and will put it on his head. Needless to say we're still in diapers. :)

Eli did that back at that he's 21 months and when I ask if he wants to use the potty when he's clearly going he emphatically tells me NO.

Definately! My cousin potty learned when she was 12 months old. She would sit on the potty and go and was completely out of diapers by 14 months. (my aunt also practiced EC, so this could have played a major role in the early potty learning???) Keep encouraging him! That's awesome!!!

My son's 2 1/2, he has peed on the potty maybe two or three times but they were pretty random, he hasn't really tried at all lately.
