Description:
I know teen pregnancy is on the rise again. I am interested in finding out how many moms on this site know, or know someone who knows a pregnant teen, teen mom, or young adult who began as a teen mom. I am doing some personal research.

How many pregnant teens, teen moms, or young adults who began as teen moms do you know, or someone you know knows?

I lost count at how many I know.

Two of the highschools I attended had so many teen moms they had to purchase property (one bought a portable classroom building, the other a home across the street from campus) to provide free daycare for students' kids. They were both small-town schools... one only had 200 kinds in the whole highschool.

One student at the smaller school was 16 & had 3 children. She'd get out of school at the end of the day, go across the street to pick up her younger 2, and then walk to the elementary school to pick up her 1st grade daughter. She had to have been about 11 when she had her.

things haven't changed since i went to school in the 70s. Teen mothers can make great parents and older mothers can suck. It isn't as much an age factor as a maturity level. One of my daughters had a baby at almost 18 and the other waited until she was in her 20s. BOTH are doing an excellent job .

i thought they should have done that  back when i was in school I also thought they should make it a mandatory class for both sexes to spend an hour a day with these babies and learn what it is really about. i felt back then that if more boys had to take care of babies there would be more use of protection by them. And that was way before AIDS came on the scene

I got pregnant at 18, had my son at 19.
One of my friends had her son at 17, about a week after high school graduation. Other friends of mine were or are teen moms.

    I know a bunch.
My oldest sister in law. She was 18 (I think) when her daughter was born. She's 40 now and has 3 grandkids (the oldest is almost 6).
My best friend as a kid had her daughter when she was 17, just graduated from high school. She's 27 and her daughter is 9 1/2 and she is my hero. She is the greatest mom, finished college and is now an English teacher in a special high school for troubled teens (the kids no other school wants to deal with), she has a social life, boyfriend, plays softball on the weekends. She is awesome. I'm 5 years older then her and had my first a year after her when I was 23 and I wish I could be half as put together as she is.
Then there is my husband's niece. The daughter of the sil above. She had her first at 18, on purpose. She tried for a year to get pregnant. Then she had another at 19 despite not being able to handle the first kid and pawning her off on anyone that would take her. She's 24 now and has 3 kids with 3 different guys (although the dad of the first one claims both the 1st and 2nd girls). The kids are almost 6, 4 1/2 and 18 months.
I also had a friend in high school have a baby. We weren't real close but her daughter was born around Christmas our senior year. She was only 16, going on 17. I remember he baby was at graduation. As far as I know she was the only pregnant girl in our class of 400 girls (Catholic all-girls school). And I remember maybe 1 or 2 other girls pregnant the 4 years I was there, I think they were both seniors when I was a freshman. She'd be about 30 now and her daughter would be 13.
I also have a bunch of cousins that had kids around 17/18 years old. One of my cousin's 16yo daughter's had a baby a couple years ago. My mom's family likes to start young I guess.

I don't necessarily think being a teen mom is the end of the world or means you won't amount to anything. Moms come in all shapes and sizes. Some are good and some are bad. I've known moms of all ages that are crappy at what they do. And I've known moms that were teens that were both awesome moms (like my best friend) or horrible (like my husband's niece). It is about the individual person, not their age.

my mom was married at 18 had a baby at 19 and then had three more in 3.5 years. so by the time she was 23 she had 4 kids and then by the time she was 28 she had two more. All the time married to my dad.

All six of us graduated, never got into trouble with the law and several of us made it to college with one becoming a nurse and i have two professional licenses in Cosmetology.

the age of the mom is not as important as the actions after she has a baby

This is exactly the reason why I do everything in my power to help teen and young moms. Look at how many people, within such a short time responded with knowing at least 1 teen mom, or pregnant teen. I am helping MTV locate a few pregnant teens. They are finally doing a true life documentary showing the realities. I am speaking with them about doing segments on the different ages. As we all know, the pregnancy is the easy part. Raising our children be the best they can be, so they have a positive future, is the challenge. If anyone knows a 16 year old who is approx 4-6 months pregnant, I can let you know criteria, but the teen will be given a total of $5,000. The woman producing the documentary has a deadline of the end of this week.
