If you've been in a relationship for 12 years is it o.k. to suggest to your SO that you get matching tattoo's? He has tattoo's all over his arms, so he is willing to get tattoo's.... But would suggesting a matching tattoo be taking things to far?

Well if he already has tattoos and wants more, why not suggest matching ones? I would think the worst that could happen is him saying no, or not liking the design you have in mind. Good luck!

I would if you were planning on getting married, but not until afterward. Only because tattoos are permanent and it would suck to be left with that if the relationship ended badly. It's true that it still could in a marriage too, we all know the divorce rates, but I would want it to be SERIOUSLY committed first. My husband and I are planning on getting matching tattoos for our anniversary next year after the baby is born :) He already has three but it will be my first!

i think its fine but dont get eachothers names or anything. get a picture or word that represents your relationship that way if something should happen to end the relationship you wont have to explain why you have "bob" or "larry" or something tattooed on you

Absolutely after 12 years why even question to us about asking him anything??? I do also agree with learea...that NO NAMES. It is a curse on your relationship to get eachothers names but a matchiny one sounds great...I want the same one I saw DH get a few years back it's a very traditional dragon but I just love it and I'm not a dragon girl usually...However, I too am a tattoo virgin.....Julie

I am a fan of tattoos so I'm a little partial on this one, but I think matching tatts are ok as long as you DON"T GET NAMES on each other... BAD LUCK! Every couple I know that got each others names on their bodies is no longer together and hate that tatt.

I have actually tried to talk my boyfriend into getting something for each other. He has the initials of one of his exs on his leg then he has the word "hers" tattooed on his middle finger from when he was married but refuses to get anything for me. I do not think its fair at all. I am with him and plan to be the rest of my life even if we dont get married but yet he will not do anything like that for me but he did for 2 other girls.
