Description:
I posted another poll about advice being given out by doctors and family about retraction - seems a high percentage have been told they need to do this. Curious to know how widespread the practice is. Thanks.

This includes retraction by parents.

Just in case anyone is wondering - the AAP advises against retraction by anyone but the boy himself when he is old enough to clean it himself. Sadly a lot of doctors do not keep up with up to date information :(

Has your uncircumcised son ever been retracted by a doctor/health professional/family member?

No, but almost. Thankfully I am/was educated on the topic and stopped him...he then proceeded to mock my entire parenting style. Needless to say, we no longer see this "Doctor".

    Good poll, thanks for posting!
I can't believe my ears/eyes every time I hear that someone was told to retract their baby or young son! You should NEVER do that!!!! Only the owner of the penis should do that, and only when it's ready...it should NEVER be forced!

Nope, all the Dr does is look. He doesn't touch anything.

Nope. I had a doctor try it and I screamed at him and smacked his hands away. He apparently was "just seeing how far it would go..." We fired him and found a better doctor.

The last doctor tried. I yelled at her to leave his penis alone! So I found a new doctor, hopefully it won't be an issue anymore.

As I said in the other poll... my son's foreskin was retracted by a pediatrician --- he tore in 3 place, bled quite a bit, and screamed for days every time he had to pee.

Not long after that, we took him to the ER for what we assumed was a bladdar infection. The first thing the ER Dr did was to attempt to retract him --- my husband stopped him (which really pissed the guy off). He did no "further" exam and said he just needed to be circ'd.

BTW --- he DID just have a bladdar infection. Diagnosed by my family dr... brought on by my mom giving him Dr. Pepper.

No, my doctor never tried to retract the foreskin (she did ask if it was able to be retracted when ds was about three.) I have heard a lot of false advice about retracting the foreskin of an infant, though... just not from my doc!
