Sigh - Catholics understand the pope is just a man and not God. The pope is a very educated man who has dedicated his life to Christ and His teachings. He is to be admired not worshipped. He is led by the Holy Spirit (as was the first pope, Peter,) and as the sucessor of Peter he received the authority to lead Christ's earthly church from Jesus (2 Tim. 2:2).

To bad there isn't an option like "Of course Catholics don't worship the pope - it's just that non-Catholics over-react to the mention of him."

IF the OP comes back to look at this discussion, I have just one question...What exactly do you have against Catholics? I think it's very unfair of you to make these assumptions and then scream out your opinions in all caps (that is considered yelling when you're on the 'net you know). And why the 2 yes options? It's very clear what you're doing here, and imo it's disgusting.

I have nothing else to say to this since eringo has done so already and she is always so calm and reasonable in her responses...

Being the only Catholic in my family and knowing many denominations. They are taught many negative, false teachings of the Catholic Church. So in her defense she really doesn't know better. Unfortunately there are just as many Catholics who don't really know their faith either. Which doesn't help the situation.

Georgia, you should delete this poll. You're helping no cause other than the non-Christians' belief that Christians love to bash each other. It's not a very good witness.

First of all, I want to know what the sudden hang up with Catholics is. I get it. We're different from Christian denominations. I get it, Protestants are taught many things about Catholics (usually based on misconceptions about what we actually believe). And I also get it. We're one of the largest denonminations out there. So here's my answer to go with Eringoborough's and I hope this poll doesn't go much further:

NO. We do NOT. NOT. and I REPEAT NOT. Worship the Pope...we do NOT worship him. We recognize him as the descendent of Peter. We see him as the visible sign of Jesus's promise to not leave us on our own. We see him as a type of Fatherly figure. Someone who loves us and trusts in God to help guide us in our faith. But he is NOT God. Never was, never will be. We know he's just a man. We don't think he's God or even A god. We think of him as special to us because of his job and we believe God gives him special graces and ability to help lead the Catholic Church. The role of pope has been handed down SINCE PETER. It's NOT NEW. If you look in the Bible the apostles (and Paul) were ordaining and laying hands on OTHERS to help spread the Gospel (the Good News about Christ and His teachings). The Apostles were mortal men...they needed people to take their places as they died. So they passed it down. Pope Benedict XVI is the result of this succession, called Apostalic Succession, and like I said, yes, it's in the Bible.

Okay, now... CAN WE PLEASE MOVE ON??

Thank you for this opportunity to help dispel yet another falsehood about Catholicism.

Now that it has been explained to you that Catholics do not and have never worshipped the Pope you can help spread the truth. I am assuming you are Christian and so would not be interested in spreading falsehoods and lies.

Ok, I am not a Catholic but I can tell you from actually speaking with the Catholic moms on here that they do not worship the Pope. If you read thru one of my polls regarding the differences between catholics and the other denominations of christians you will learn what they believe and what myths there are about their beliefs :-)

I couldn't vote because you didn't have my answer..."Catholics don't worship the Pope".

I just have to shake my head at the stupidity flying around out there! It isn't just about Catholicism either.

Get informed before opening your mouth.

Catholics don't worship the pope. This poll is discriminatory and mean. You should delete it. (No, I'm not Catholic. But most of my family is.)
