I ask this b/c I was considering doing one for fun, but I have seen my mom react as though she thought it was tacky & another family was showing off or something when she got one.

When you get a family newsletter, do you smile or roll your eyes? A family newsletter is:

  • A nice recap of a family's year

  • A way for annoying people to show off about their family

Um, we got one this year from my cousin and her new husband and I thought it was a little weird, LOL! I think if you have kids it may be a little different, theirs was a total brag fest about all the different countries they visited and their new downtown loft with pictures and yada yada, LOL! I think if it was about your kids it may be a little different and I would enjoy reading and seeing pics of them.

I voted annoying, but I agree with Haleysmom; if it's ALL about the kids it'd be okay, but even that can be a little boastful. But to sit there and tell everyone about your kickass vacation and your promotion, etc. is just tactless and annoying.

I used to send them out and got nothing but raves. I did them up just like a newsletter (with the writing in columns. I would have lots of pictures inbetween and graphics to illustrate what each section was about. I'd do a story on each of the kids...biggest thing that happened to them that year (the last one I did had a story about my oldest starting preschool, about my son turning 3 and about my youngest, at the time, finally starting to talk). Then I'd have a recap of what they got for Christmas or how we celebrated Christmas (I always sent them out late, lol) and a little paragraph about what was going on in me and hubby's life (I think that year I talked about celebrating our anniversary which is next week). I put in a nice graphic about Christmas and thanking everyone that sent us cards. And a little growth chart for the kids to show how big they were getting.
I used to spend a lot of time doing them. There was a cover with a bunch of pictures and the titles of all the articles and then a page or two of writing and then a page with just pictures of everything we did during the year.
My family loved them and they have been begging me to do them again.
I can't understand how people can think that is tacky. I just wanted to share our lives with people we never see.
I've also had some sent to me and I love to read them and see what my family is up to, even my cousin who spends weeks in Hawaii with her kids and go on long cruises and buy big houses, etc. It's exciting to them so it's exciting to me and I've never felt they were bragging or showing off.

I like to read them. Interesting to find out what's happened with family, especially if I don't see them much.

I don't read them. I know what's going on in my family and if anyone sends me a newsletter with their card, it gets thrown out.

I love it. I never talk to most of my fam and its great to see what they were up to. The person that thinks its boastful is probably jealous because they dont have anything great going on.

I would love it if someone acctually wrote someting to update me, but when I get a newsletter, I just feel like they think of me as one of the massess, and I'm just one of many fans and their family is the celebrity? or something like that. All in all, I don't like them!
