my son was given one, pregs now and the hosp. paper work actually askes if they should give one... i read up and the research says it is good for baby birth to 3 months, we took it then and he never had any issues sucking thumbs, etc.. it serves a purpose (holds down the tounge or something) for a short time.

my daughter had one until she was 2.5 then we took it away. it didn't bother her she was already over having it by then.

I originally said NO WAY, but both my kids had colic, so I offered them. Lucky for me, neither baby wanted it.

my 6 month old is the only one who's ever wanted one and i'm not sure when to take it away... i haven't dealt with this before... i was kind of hoping she'd be a thumbsucker instead...

you can never take away a thumb...but you can take away a pacifier. i know someone who sucked his thumb til he was 18 years old. both of my kids used/use them. my 2 year old son gave it up all on his own one day.

My son use a pacifier & new baby 2 come soon I'm give 1 also if he wants it. How my son got off is he got sick b4 he turn 2 yrs old (which he is now 3) & he didnt want no pacifier or anything so when I saw that he didnt want it I took advantage of it & threw all the pacifiers n the garbage because he was already off the bottle. So I wanted 2 complete the package. lol

my son took on from day 1 ... he got off it honestly cuz i wanted to be lazy one nite! i was soooo tired and could not get outa bed for one , so i told him we left em at pappys & gave him my stuffed dog and held him (he slept w/ me) and he said ok ill get one 2morro , and didnt even cry about it ... the next morning , 4got all about it! so i hid em!!! ... my daughter who was just born wants only the soothie ones , but i bought like 12 parents choice ones ... im trying to switch her ... she rly has no intrest in a binky at all tho , we gave her one twice and she only used it for like 5 minutes ...

My son had one, but I didn't give it to him until he was already a week old. I was hoping he'd go without one and learn to comfort himself with his hands. I finally gave in and used only the Soothie binky, which he used until he was about 4-5 months old, then all of a sudden just decided he didn't like it anymore and cried louder when I gave it to him, so now at 6 1/2 months old, he's binky-less and only occasionally sucks his thumb.

I ment to put baby didn't want it. But I wouldn't do it if I were you, because it is so hard for mothers to get their baby off of it. If they want something to suck on for comfort they find their hands, mostly their thumbs. But they learn that in the womb so theres no need for a binky!
