Description:
I stayed in tonight (New Years Eve). I personally just don't feel right drinking around my kids (2 years and 6 months). DH and mutual friends seem to feel there is no big deal.

If you choose sometimes please tell why?

Is it O.K. for both parents to drink, when the kids are around and/or may need to be taken care of ?

I don't have a problem with it. I rarely drink but my husband usually has a couple beers at night (if we have some in the house). Occasionally I'll have a couple, too and we'll stay up playing Rock Band (which is freaking hilarious once I have a few beers in me). I can still take care of the kids with a buzz.
My parents always drank around us and I never thought anything of it as a kid.

A few drinks on occasion is no big deal, but at least one of you should be sober enough to tend to the children (if they are young).

Drinking in moderation is not something that should be hidden from children, it teaches them responsible drinking.

My husband and I don't drink at home, or around the kids usually...he never drinks so even if I had a drink it wouldn't be a big deal. In any case, I don't think it's appropriate for either parent to get drunk around the kids, but having one drink probably isn't a big deal once in awhile, assuming they can control themselves and know when to stop. Drinking to the point that you can't care for your kid is never really okay IMO.

I said yes... BUT... I don't think it's okay for everyone to be DRUNK... There is a big difference between having some drinks to celebrate and being DRUNK! A few is no big... Drunk could be!

There is a difference in having a drink (a glass of wine with dinner) and getting drunk. Having a drink, okay, getting drunk unacceptable.

sure in moderation! about every other weekend we put the baby to bed, use the baby monitor, and sometimes we both get a little tipsy but we check on him regularly and when i go to bed i bring him in with me, and don't worry neither of us has ever come even CLOSE to rolling on him, we're always completly aware of where he is. plus we don't get that drunk
