My children are 5 and 4 years old. I very briefly used sippy cups when they were about 9 months old but quickly gave up on the idea because neither one used them, my girls simply threw them around and played with them - preferring to sit on someone's lap and drink from regular cups with the help of whoever was holding them. So they used bottles and drank from regular cups until age 1 then I threw out their bottles and by then they could hold a cup by themselves so I bought child-sized plastic cups and that's all they've used with me though I recently discovered that while at their father's house he still uses sippy cups at all times for our 4 year old and our 5 year old uses one if she has a drink anywhere other than the dining room table! I flipped out on him because there's no reason for it and he agrees but his girlfriend makes the kids use them. I understand her kid using them because her 4 year old has asperger's syndrome and doesn't always pay attention to where she puts her drin

At what age should a child stop using a sippy cup?

  • 1 - 2 years old

  • 2 - 3 years old

  • 3 - 4 years old

  • 4+ years old

  • I never used sippy cups

I hate how they cut it off - anyway I was saying her child does not always pay attention to where she puts her cups down and has either missed the table while putting it down or knocks it over and while this can occasionally happen with my children as well there really is no need to make them use little kid cups. When they come home they tell me how much they hate going to daddy's house because of the "baby cups" amongst other things.

my daughter never really used sippy cups. I have a few of the tupperware cups with removable tops, but those are rarely used, more for the night time drink of water.

I love sippy cups. My 6 yr old still uses them. She does know how to drink from a regular cup of course, she is just super messy with everything. I have always used them without the stopper though to lessen the damage they can cause to teeth.

My son is 5 and still uses them - around the house, in the car, at the library, at the park - places that a regular cup just aren't going to work.  He drinks out of a regular cup at meal time.

My SD used them or something similar until she was about 6 because she didn't always pay attention to what she was doing and very often she would end up spilling her drinks. Mostly it was a way for us to limit messes. When she was 7 we decided she was old enough to clean up her own messes so we've gotten rid of them.

My son just turned 2 about a month ago, and has been using regular cups a couple months before he turned 2. He only uses sippy's when he's at day care.

Each to their own. It depends on the child and situation. But they're practical. I don't want someone else's kids spilling drinks all over my house, so under 5 will have a sippy cup in my home. And honestly, is it really hurting your kids drinking from sippy cups at their fathers?

I feel ya. I live with my mother in law and she has my 5 year old use them. But its not hurting anything and it keeps her carpet from getting messed up as much. *Shrugs shoulders*
