Girl it is up to you. I had to have the epidural, I wasn't able to relax after 24 hours without the epidural. As soon as I got it my body relaxed and I finished dilating. And don't let anyone lie to you...contractions really really hurt. Like nothing you have ever felt before. So don't let anyone make you feel bad for getting drugs.

I had a natural homebirth and was in labor for 29 hours. It helped that I had the support of my hubby and was at home able to relax. Most of my labor wasn't that bad actually...just the end and it was more intense than horrible. We're planning a second homebirth with the new one on the way and I'm really looking forward to it. :)

I had a natural water birth at a freestanding birth center with direct entry midwives. No drugs, IV, or monitors keeping me tethered to a bed. It was really hard work, but an awesome experience. The only thing I'll change next time is I'll have the midwife come to me and birth at home.

To each their own...I don't think that we should judge because we just don't know each others pain...and each person deals with it differently!

i had to be induced (water broke but no labor) and its like getting the worst of the contractions all at once. i opted epidural, but you have to do what YOU feel is best for you & your baby!

I chose to go with an epidural after being in labor for 13 hours, I had planned on going farther but I was just too exhausted to go on without. I am hoping my next labor won't be as long so that I can go farther in the labor without an epi.

I had an epidural. I went from a 4 to a 10 in less than 2 hours after my water broke. It was the only thing that allowed me to nap for a little while.

I have to be induced because my body doesn't naturally create all the hormones it should, I opted for an epidural both times. Honestly, even if I hadn't been induced, I would have wanted one... I see no reason to be in pain that long if you don't have to be.

There is so much more to a natural birth then just not having pain medicines. It is about a trust in the birth process. It is about knowing that not only do you not need any pain relief, but you are unwilling to bring the risks they carry to you and your baby. It is about surrendering to the process and appriciating it for the growth it brings. It is about listening to your body and working with your body. It is about getting a high like you have never felt before as soon as it is over. Both of my births were without any type of pain medication, and I would NEVER choose it. You CAN definitely do it!
