I'm surprised by the amount of paranoia I've seen right here on CM. Mothers imply that stepfathers can't always be trusted, that they might be predators with an interest in sexually abusing the stepkids, etc. Gimme a break! Bio-parent or step-parent, it's a tough enough job already without being discriminated against as well.

No one said anything about sexual abuse. It was just a general question.

with stepmothers there is always jealousy of children and of the bio mom. I would say its 10 times the amount of what a stepdad would have. I'm not saying in all cases but lots.

Stepfathers have been known to be jealous of children as well. It's a two-way street. I've been working with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization now for over 16 years and have seen alot of relationships messed up because of some men. I am not saying all men or stepfathers are bad it just seems that alot of women have more patience with kids. It is certainly apparent in this program as their is always a long waiting list of boys to be taken from this program, sadly.

I'm not sure about problems with children.. But if i met a guy with kids, it would be harder for me to bond with them, over my own child. But as of right now, I have a boyfriend who absolutly loves my son, and he plays catch with him, and everything. It just depends on the person. My son's bio father does not want anything to do with him, and I bet if i got togehter with him, he wouldnt even want to play with my son.
