Being a mom to four and a stepmom to one, I definitely see a HUGE difference between having one and having more than one, but I would never say someone is not a parent just because they only have one!

It only takes one kid for you to be a parent...period. That's stupid someone would think otherwise!

I only have one child, and I consider myself a parent. I think that's kinda goofy to say you're not a parent unless you have more than one.

who would say that? the number of quantity of children you have has nothing to do with it. you either are a parent or you are not. now, when it comes to time management and quantity of children you might have an argument! ;-)

I can see the point, even though it's a stupid way to make it. Having a kid makes you a parent. But I've noticed when parents of single children give me advice, it seems like they expect every child to be like their One. So I can see that having more than one opens up your mind a lot. I just have one so far, and I SURE AM a parent, but not one that's going to go out and give parenting advice!

You are a parent when you take the job seriously and live your life in a way that is in the best interest of your children. This is the same whether you have 1 kid or 20. I am a mom of 4, and I have been a parent since I got pregnant with my first child, and I have changed as a person and learned more with each of them. Each child gives you a new and different experience, and parents with more kids may have more insight into sibling relationships and differences in kids, as well as differences in dynamic between the parent and each kid, but if you are a good parent with one, you are as much of a parent as anyone else.

I chose 'not true' but then I read Adelicious' post and she made a VERY valid point. I still stand by my choice, and I don't really know what the poster was referring to, but I can completely see Adelicious' point. I am a mom of 5, and there are times when I get irritated by judgemental 'advice' or 'suggestions' from a mom of 1 who feels she knows better than me, on how to handle all my children - at once. I don't mind truly caring advice, but...like a certain SIL of mine (before she had her 2nd, lol)...I felt that she had no idea what she was talking about...and after her 2nd child (a VERY hyper boy), I'll tell you, I was right.
