Happy Holidays from the CafeMom Team. We are sharing some of the best of the CafeMom holiday traditions with you. We hope you'll share your family's traditions with us.
Christmas with "Oma" (German for grandma) is always spent on Christmas Eve. Grandpa is a musician in Chicago and my girls play in the school band. Of course they know all the Christmas music and Grandpa always finds a way to play along. We all sing and drink Asti Spumanti :)
One of my best memories from childhood is when I was little and we used to go shopping on xmas eve( remember bluelight specials),then my grandparents would come over late. She and my mom would stay up late to make "candy pudding", wrap packages and put together Santa gifts, so the living room would be filled on xmas morning. We would always have country ham, and mom and dad would fall asleep early afternoon and my brother and I would play with our new stuff. I really miss that.
before i go to bed i put silver outside our door hopeing to bring more money in the house during the next year and then on new years day before i say anything to anyone i bring the silver in ... it still hasnt worked ... maybe this year.
On New Years Eve my family makes New Years Bread and then on New Years Day we bake it and eat it. It is kind of a good luck thing for the year. Last year we didn't get to do it and this whole year was a disaster. So needless to say we are going to be doing it this year come hell or high water.
now that my little ones are getting old enough to understand the whole "get-up" of christmas and the eve ( baking cookies for santa, reading "the night before christmas, putting out our "Secret Santa Key", sprinkling reindeer food on the front lawn, etc.) I have informed other family members that we will stay home on Christmas Eve for our for these reasons.. And decided what could be better than spending the day watching old home videos all day.My kids loved it and it had me in tears(hubby2lol)
My girls are only 18 months and the smallest is 3 months... I am starting to teach them how to give to others when they get new toys. Every child deserves a toy and I want my girls to learn to give to others in need.
WE usually celebrate Christmas sitting around eating and playing with gifts. We live in TExas where its usally pretty warm. This year we had a Blizzard and spent the day building a snowman, making snow angels and having a snow ball fight. : ) Super Fun!
ON New years Eve is Whn we take down the Christmas stuff and putting it away . Then we go out and get snacks and finger foods to eat and watch the Ball drop .
