  • 1. Watch the following "video" , then discuss here what you think of the cesarean epidemic in the U.S. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ2taLF3rII

  • 2. Were you told you had "CPD" and needed a c-section? Watch the following video, then share your feelings on the "CPD" diagnosis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roFVkDV45MM

  • 3. Have you had 1, 2 or 3 c-sections and still want a VBAC? Watch this video and then discuss your reasons for wanting a VBAC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yK0K0HAgLDM

  • 4. Did you have a c-section? If so, what did you like about it?

  • 5. Did you have a c-section? If so, what did you not like/hate about it?

  • 6. Did you have a vbac? If so, what did you like about it?

  • 7. Did you have a vbac? If so, what did you not like/hate about it?

  • 8. On hospital VBAC bans: did you know that increasing numbers of hospitals in the U.S. are banning VBAC? How do you feel about this?

  • 9. On hospital VBAC bans: The reason many hospitals are banning VBAC is because hospitals that offer VBAC must have 24/7 in-house anesthesia available. Would you feel comfortable giving birth in a hospital (whether it's a vbac or not) that did not have anesthesia immediately available?

I've only had 1 c-section (and 1 VBAC). I wanted a VBAC because I know that vaginal birth is safest for the mother and healthiest for the baby. Also, labor is one wild ride that I can't wait to experience again! !
      • 5. Did you have a c-section? If so, what did you not like/hate about it?

Yes. I hated not being able to feel myself breathe. I hated having my hands tied down. I hated not watching my daughter come into this world. I hated the pain medicine. I hate my scar. I hated the pain. I hated how much it hurt to walk. I hated that it hurt to hold my baby. I hate how hard it was to nurse a newborn AND a fresh scar.
      • 6. Did you have a vbac? If so, what did you like about it?

Yes, I had a vbac. I loved everything about my vbac. I loved being able to get up out of bed just 20 minutes after giving birth. I love how there was no pain and just some discomfort. I loved contractions and pushing. I loved having my family and friends with me. I loved being able to touch my fresh-squeezed baby boy. I loved my midwife. I loved allowing my baby to choose his birthday. I loved it. I loved it. I loved it.

Okay what is up with you & c-sections! I answered another survey you had. Where the comments were defending the survey like you aren't bashing them. Umm making 3 surveys telling how bad they are... hello yes you have a problem with them. I have never had one. Even though everything you had in the 2nd one pretty much described my deliveries. I mean I can understand you not liking them or wanting anymore. But the way you go about these is yes pretty much telling those mom's that have had them that it is wrong!

I've never done or said anything that you accuse me of. In 2006 the c-section rate in this country was 31.1%. The World Health Organization says that any rate above 10-15% offers NO BENEFIT to mothers or babies. Ours is at LEAST double what the WHO says it should be.

What's up with her and c-sections? She's spreading awareness.

And what's wrong "bashing them"? If someone made a survey about drinking, smoking and drug use during pregnancy would you have a problem with THAT?

Mm-hmm.. And what's wrong with having a problem with unnecessary medical intervention? We should ALL have a problem with that.

Hey, all she's doing is asking "did you know?" If women do know- great! I hope they're making informed decisions and admitting what it says about them that they're making these decisions.. And for those who are ignorant- these surveys are a good starting place for them to start learning!

These are EXACTLY the sorts of questions we need in this portion of cafemom!!!

maybe instead of surveys nobody wants to take, this poster could spread awareness through pamphlets or journal posts.
