  • 1. What do you consider good grades for your teenager? What is unacceptable?

    A's.

  • 2. How do you encourage teens to keep up with school work? Do you chck their home work?

I tell them it is the only thing that matters their school work is their job one.

  • 3. Have you ever given your child a reward for good grades? What if you did was it?

Oh yeah, once in elementary school we made the promise that if they all got A's then we would get them a limo. Well it took until high school but they did it. The next week a limo was in the drive way. All three of them were like whoa? What's up with that. They were thrilled.

  • 4. Can we motivate kids to keep good grades or should they be self motivated?

Self motivated, they have to learn it is up to them to achieve the best they can be.

  • 5. If your kid was having difficulty in a certian subject how would you address this issue?

I would talk to them, then the teacher. get them help at school and or a out side learning facility.

  • 6. What lenths would you go to to ensure good grades? Hand pick better teachers? Take kids to a tutor?

What ever it took. I would go and see what are the best teachers. Tutor of course.

  • 7. Would you hand pick your childs friends that are smarter?

Well, yes. But usually they pick my kids. I want them to associate with smarter kids. However true friends are not picked by our mothers.

  • 8. Would you pay extra for better teachers? (if you could afford it)

    Yes, education is very important.

  • 9. Do you think it is a moral obligation to make sure your kids are in the best classes?

    I do.

  • 10. Are smarter kids discriminated against? With all the programs for learning disabled classes?

I see that sometimes that the kids with disabilities are given more allowances and have special classes. I don't see so many for kids with higher capabilities.

  • 11. If your child could get into the 'best college' would you pay for it? Even if it ment living with out the luxery items in your life?

Yes I think so. I would work two jobs if that is what it would take.

  • 12. What could you give up for your kids? New cars, better house? I mean really do you want better for their lives?

I think I would be cranky with out my house, car and sewing machine but the rest is up for grabs.

  • 13. If you knew one of your kids was the next "Einstien" could you put your life on hold to make sure they got what they needed educationally?

I am 100% certain of it.

dont get me wrong i want my children to excel in school, as do all parents, but i personally would not want my child to be a einstein, imagine the emotional damage that would mean, and cost them, children have their peers, and i wouldnt want my children to miss out on school with their friends because they were genius's!

I am an educator at the middle school level. I enjoyed reading some of the responses to the survey. It is refreshing to know that there are parents that are realistic and supportive.
