Aren't those 50% of so called pure breads known to be less healthy. I really need to research this. It's very interesting, and I really should be more aware. I had no clue about the produce, but have heard bits and pieces of information about dogs.

Actually it is quite the opposite. Pure breads are frequently inbread because many of them come into the states in such short supply. One top of that pure breads frequently have spicific health problems due to their size, shape, hair densisity etc...Pugs(sinus problems) mastifs, and great danes(hip problems) Chows (skin problems) By cross breading you can cause these problems to be far less prominate. Some "Pure bread" dogs of today that are actually the result of cross breading are: Miniature Bulldog (bulldog/pug), Scoland terrier (Scottish Terrier/Westie mix), and a Blue Spaniel (Australian Catle Dog/Cocker Spaniel mix), just to name a few.

Cross breeds are healthier than pure breeds, as motherdragon already said. There are only a few breeds that are pure and still quite healthy, like Basenji, just to name one.

Just an FYI, for those that are interested. Everything mentioned on this survey has been done and/or is in the process of being done except for two things. If you know or would like to guess what those things are fell free to reply below. The answer will be located in a journal posts shortly.

Some things are messing with nature to a detriment or unforseen negative consequences, some are just messing with nature for no reason other than to mess with it, some are messing with nature but with a positive benefit to advancing the species. A balance is so very important when going against the natural order. Cloning organs is good, encouraging twinning good, but cloning a person for the sake of harvesting their organs would be bad.
